About Us

Important Q & A

Why BLISS, and why NOW?

o   BLISS is a unique community care program that focuses in providing non-medical in-home care services through Licensed Care Providers at NO COST to eligible Seniors. BLISS also hosts community events, distributes basic necessities, arranges transportation services, and educates Seniors to understand the benefits and resources available to them in their respective communities. Part of our advocacy is to provide an extra level of protection to Seniors who wish to stay in the comfort of their own homes.  These Licensed Care Providers help protect Seniors by reducing physical hazards and increasing emotional support. The result is renewed quality of life!

o   Why is BLISS critically important now? Statistics show an estimated 48% of 65+ year-old San Diego residents have physical or mental conditions that disable them from performing activities of daily living (ADL’s). As a result, these Seniors struggle to maintain personal safety and the dignity of independent living in their own homes. Their desperate need calls for a radical solution. Enter BLISS Care Foundation.

Who is eligible for BLISS care services?

o   BLISS beneficiaries are over 55 years of age;

o   They have some kind of medical condition that makes activities of daily living like personal care, meal preparation and housekeeping impossible without help;

o   They have monthly income of under $2,100; and,

o   They live in Senior mobile home parks or subsidized Senior housing in East County.

What are BLISS’s Service Goals?

In 2023, our goals are to establish partnerships with 5 low-income communities or subsidized housing, 3 licensed care providers, and provide 2,520 hours to eligible Seniors within San Diego’s East County. These eligible beneficiaries will receive 1-4 hours of care per week. To fulfill our mission this year, we need to raise $75,600.

How much funding does BLISS need to reach those goals?

We start with $35, then multiply! $35 funds one hour of non-medical in-home care service by a State-registered caregiver whose JOY it is to serve Seniors. $35 provides someone to listen, someone to change their bedsheets and to make their home a little bit nicer, someone to assist in Activities of Daily Living. Help us multiply the hours of service we extend to low-income Seniors!  Help us scale to the needs in San Diego!

How is BLISS activating a care community?

BLISS is “joyfully joining hearts to serve underserved Seniors!” BLISS partners with individual supporters, corporate sponsors, senior community managers, licensed care providers, volunteers and friends whose hearts are moved to advocacy for low-income Seniors. This year, partner with BLISS to multiply your social impact!

Is BLISS in competition with other Senior care agencies?

No. BLISS is unique but not in competition. There are several great local nonprofits that provide care to Seniors with the advantage of insurance and government subsidy. BLISS is the only non-profit in the area dedicated to providing services at no cost to the Senior.  Some organizations may choose to partner with BLISS as a supplement to their full-service program. BLISS is eager to partner with other organizations to create many more jobs for caregivers as together we respond to needs within the low-income Senior communities.

How do you impart your core values to ensure that Seniors receive the highest standard care?

BLISS Community Care Program includes an orientation that shapes a heart to serve and vets the compassion, empathy and professional skill of those who graduate from the program before they are engaged in the homes of our Beneficiaries. The caregivers form small teams that focus their service at one Senior community for shift compliance and efficiency, as well as to maintain an appropriate relational bond and companionship for the Seniors.
