Dyna Jones

Dyna was prepared from youth to care deeply for people who need special advocacy.   After immigrating to the U.S. from the Philippines as a young woman, Dyna’s first employment was as a Bathing Aide at a large, assisted living community, then as a private caregiver to two elderly ladies and their families.  As Dyna cared well for her clients, they responded in love and made a difference in Dyna’s life as well!   Dyna encountered a beautiful mutuality, even in a service relationship.

Dyna’s early dream was to manage her own elder care facility.  After Dyna and Kevin married in 2003, almost immediately they had the opportunity to purchase an existing six-bed elder care facility. Before long, they added a second facility.  They served with such excellence that clients and their families spread the word.  Soon more seniors desired care than they had space to accommodate at their Bosworth Gardens I & II.  So, in 2015, Dyna and Kevin took a leap of faith to extend care to seniors in the comfort of their own homes.  They established a licensed care agency called First Promise Care Services, which matches senior clients with State-registered caregivers trained by Dyna and launched truly with a heart to serve.  First Promise caregivers have increased the quality of life of many seniors who are now living their elder years at home with confidence, dignity, and comfort.

What about the seniors who cannot afford service at home?  This question deeply touched both Kevin and Dyna.  In 2019, they were inspired by the vision of “Blessed Low-Income Senior Support.”  With the help of financial supporters and volunteers, soon the acronym B.L.I.S.S. became a full-action plan, fiscally sponsored at first by Mission Edge San Diego and now launching as a 501(c)(3) California Nonprofit!

Kevin grew up in a loving family that provided comfort and care to his grandfather who suffered from Parkinson’s disease.  Kevin’s grandmother was the primary caregiver for several years.  Her commitment and love endeared her as a saint to her family and friends.  Near the end of his life, Grandpa was moved to a skilled care facility.  After several years, he passed away.  Meanwhile, Grandma weakened and required assistance at home.  Kevin’s family assumed that every caregiver would treat Grandma with the same respect and dignity she had lavished upon others.  Sadly, Grandma was disrespected and mistreated by some of her caregivers.

Compassionate and reliable senior care was never a random idea for Kevin.  After witnessing the tender needs of seniors in his own family, Kevin determined as an adult to make a difference for other seniors.  Kevin realized that sometimes our own heartbreak draws us to be set apart for a particular focus.  Kevin now champions quality care at home for seniors.
